Future Home of The Rotunda Collaborative

The Rotunda Collaborative, a program of the Bloomfield Garfield Corporation in partnership with Beacon Communities

The Rotunda Collaborative is an intentional community arts organization where we celebrate the rich history of our unique building, the diverse community that lives and works in Garfield/East Liberty, and what happens when creative and caring people come together to craft a vision for the equitable and inclusive neighborhood of the future.

Who We Are

Funded & Under Construction

Residences – Led by Beacon Communities, the former school building wings  are being repurposed and added onto to create a 45-unit mixed-income environmentally-focused housing community, honored by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency’s (PHFA) “Innovation in Design” awards in 2019.

Together, let’s make the rest happen

Under Development

Additional visioning, planning and fundraising is underway for the following additional elements at the site:

The Rotunda Collaborative, a program of the Bloomfield Garfield Corporation in partnership with Beacon Communities – The Rotunda Collaborative is being created as a non-profit community arts organization that celebrates the Jewish history and architectural significance of our unique building, along with the diverse community that lives and works in Garfield/East Liberty now. Using the arts as a common language, our space will foster an environment where creative and caring people come together in crafting a vision for an equitable and inclusive neighborhood of the future.

Beacon Communities’ Future Goals

The Regenerative FarmIn alignment with Beacon Communities’ vision of regenerative practices, arts programming of the Rotunda Collaborative will promote environmental and social sustainability. The entire property is being redeveloped to reduce the ecological footprint of the Rotunda and adjoining apartments. Rotunda Collaborative membership will include diverse voices and stories with members engaging in future decision making, including staffing and program offerings. Beacon Communities, the Bloomfield/Garfield Corporation and the Rotunda Collaborative will work together to use our space as a central commons where all who enter feel like they belong.

About Regenerative Design PracticesRegenerative design ensures that buildings, environmental practices and social systems work to benefit the surrounding community by addressing social issues such as equity, environmental justice and health.

Microgrid – A battery will store solar generated electricity on the residential building to make for a site that can be resilient and self-sufficient in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.
